Serve Pancakes Feb 16
OSLC regularly helps to prepare and serve a pancake breakfast at Grace Lutheran in downtown Phoenix, one of our sister congregations. If you would like to help, please sign up with the church office then be at Grace at 6:30 am to begin cooking.
Our next time to serve is Sunday, May 17.
Grace is now officially certified by Maricopa County to serve food to the public! This means they are wanting as many helpers as possible to get a Food Employee Certificate (formerly a Food Handlers Card). The card can be obtained for only $8.00 and it is good for 3 years (for an extra $2.00 you can choose an option to be able to print out your card anytime during the 3 year period.) To take a simple test and receive your Food Employee Certificate go to http://www.azfoodhandlers.com/Register3.aspx.
Volunteers Needed this Summer
Help with the ELCA rostered Leaders Gathering
July 20-23, 2020 at the Phoenix Convention Center
In July 2020 Phoenix serves as the host city for the ELCA Rostered Leaders Gathering. The theme,"Rekindle the gift within you” (2 Timothy 1:6), is a reminder that pastors and deacons are better servants when they take time to remember, reclaim, rekindle and revive. This gathering provides fellowship, renewal, continuing education, worship, bible study and refreshment for those called to serve in ordained or commissioned capacities.
Local volunteers are needed to help with registration, informational support (think directions), welcome, worship, and hospitality. This is a great way to serve the larger church in a meaningful way and support your pastors and deacons.
The event takes place July 20-23 at the Phoenix Convention Center. If you would like to volunteer (and bring a friend!), please let Pastor Karn or the church office know and you will be put in touch with the volunteer coordinator for the event.
Host a Coffee Hour
Each week after worship OSLC offers a time of fellowship. Simple treats are served along with coffee, lemonade and tea. This is a wonderful time to catch up with long time friends and meet new folks, as well.
Coffee Hour cannot be a success without many helpers. Not only do we need volunteers to set up and clean up, we need people to bring treats to share. That’s right- coffee hour is potluck style! If you have something to share, simply put it in the hall before church. If you are able to help set up and clean up, sign up on the bulletin board in the hall. Never hosted before? We have people who can show you how things are done.
Join the Piecemakers!
Join with others to make quilts for the Crisis Nursery.
No sewing experience requires...all are welcome! Contact the church office or Dianne for more information.
Share Your Musical Talents
If you play an instrument or sing, we would love for you to share your musical talent! Music enhances our worship experience. If you are interested in solo or small ensemble participation, please contact our Choir Director, Terry Williams.
Grand Canyon Synod Global Engagement Team
If you are interested in helping congregations in our synod connect more globally, particularly in the areas of hunger relief and the Senegal partnership, consider joining the Global Engagement team. Led by Pastor Karn, this synod team meets regularly at the synod offices (1819 East Morten Ave., #100A, Phoenix, AZ 85020).
Help with Worship
Many people share their gifts each Sunday morning to make our worship flow smoothly. If you would like to help out as an usher, reader, to set up communion, or even greet people who attend, please contact the church office or Pastor Karn. You may also sign up on the sheets posted in the Narthex/lobby of the sanctuary.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Do you knit or crochet? Then come to an informational meeting about the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Prayer shawls to be given to people who need to feel wrapped up in the love of Christ and find out how you can help. Want to know more? Speak with Lennie Andrews or contact the church office.
Feed the Hungry
Please help feed the hungry by contributing to the local food shelf housed at our sister congregation, Trinity Lutheran. There is a collection grocery cart in the lobby of the sanctuary, or feel free to drop of food in the office during the week.
In addition, ready to eat food is distributed to people experiencing homeless who come to our church.
