Serve Pancakes at Grace
OSLC regularly helps to prepare and serve a pancake breakfast at Grace Lutheran in downtown Phoenix, one of our sister congregations. If you would like to help, please sign up with the church office then be at Grace at 6:15 am to begin cooking.
Our 2018 dates are: January 21, March 11, May 20, July 8, September 16, and November 1.
Crop Walk 2017
We had a great group of walkers (a few missed the photo) and better yet, raised over $2200 for CROP Walk Hunger! Thanks to all who gave of their time and their treasure.
Feed the Hungry
Please help feed the hungry by contributing to the local food shelf housed at our sister congregation, Trinity Lutheran. There is a collection grocery cart in the lobby of the sanctuary, or feel free to drop of food in the office during the week.
In addition, ready to eat food is distributed to people experiencing homeless who come to our church.
Share Your Musical Talents
If you play an instrument or sing, we would love for you to share your musical talent! Music enhances our worship experience. If you are interested in solo or small ensemble participation, please contact our Choir Director, Terry Williams.
Lutheran Disaster Relief - How to Help
Lutheran Disaster Response – even as the rains and flooding persist in Texas – is responding to needs. Recovery will take years, and Lutheran Disaster Response will be there to accompany those affected through every phase of this disaster.
Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response, designated for "Hurricane Response – United States" will be used entirely (100 percent) for this disaster.
100% of funds given through LDR will be used for relief

Help with Worship
Many people share their gifts each Sunday morning to make our worship flow smoothly. If you would like to help out as an usher, reader, to set up communion, or even greet people who attend, please contact the church office or Pastor Karn and let us know.
Grand Canyon Synod Global Engagement Team
If you are interested in helping congregations in our synod connect more globally, particularly in the areas of hunger relief and the Senegal partnership, consider joining the Global Engagement team. Led by Pastor Karn, this synod team meets regularly at the synod offices (1819 East Morten Ave., #100A, Phoenix, AZ 85020).
I-HELP Sunnyslope @ OSLC on Sats
I-HELP (Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program) offers hope and a future to someone experiencing homelessness. OSLC is now part of a community collaborative that will invite these neighbors into our church home and offer hope in the form of temporary lodging and meals. I-HELP agency partners provide complementary services of case management and connections to community services. What a wonderful way to answer Christ’s call to serve those in need and share His love!
I-HELP Guest stay at OSLC on Saturday nights.. Many helpers are needed as each week on Saturday night we will be providing a dinner meal, bagged lunches, and washing bedding. Here is a brief job description of each volunteer position. Please note many positions can be combined.
-Site Coordinator: Christie Bonner is our Site Coordinator and will be the communications liaison between the congregation, IMPACT Phoenix, and the volunteers.
-Evening Host/Meal Captain: This person will Ensures the space is prepared for the guests by checking supplies, setting temperature, pulling out linen tubs, and works with a Meal Team and coordinate a meal for 3-7 guests and the meal team members.
-Meal Team Members: The 1-3 members of the meal team will prepare and serve the meal, joining the guests to eat after the first portion is served. (Items can be prepared at home and brought to OSLC to serve.) The team will also clean up the preparation and serving area.
-Bag Lunch Captain: Will coordinate bag lunches.
-Laundry Ace: Picks up bedding to wash and return by the following Saturday.
-Overnighter: Stays overnight on the premises in case of emergencies. A lovely cot is provided.
-Sunday Morning Saint: Arrives at 6:30 Am on Sunday to ensure the space is ready for OSLC's fellowship hour.
-Driver: arrives at church by 6:45 am on Sunday and transports the guests and their belonging to the IMPACT Phoenix office in Sunnyslope.
There is a sign up on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Please talk with Pastor Karn or Council Member Christie Bonner about how you might get involved to make a difference in the life of one of God's children. They can also give you a more detailed description of each role.
