CROP Hunger Walk 2019
Sunday, November 10
Hunger is one of the greatest injustices facing our world, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Ending hunger is possible, and it is possible in our lifetime. You can help make it happen.
For nearly half a century, CROP Hunger Walks have ensured that more people worldwide have access to nutritious, sustainable food sources. From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training in Indonesia to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the United States, CROP Hunger Walks help end hunger by raising funds to support local food programs and the international anti-hunger work of Church World Service.
Stand with neighbors in your community who rely on food assistance programs. Partner with parents worldwide as they ensure a bright future for their children. Support those struggling in the face of grinding poverty and open up new doors of opportunity for them.
Tens of thousands of CROP Hunger Walkers are committed to building a hunger-free world. Stay tuned for more about how you can join the movement with the OSLC team of walkers.
Feed the Hungry
Please help feed the hungry by contributing to the local food shelf housed at our sister congregation, Trinity Lutheran. There is a collection grocery cart in the lobby of the sanctuary, or feel free to drop of food in the office during the week.
In addition, ready to eat food is distributed to people experiencing homeless who come to our church.
Host a Coffee Hour
Each week after worship OSLC offers a time of fellowship. Simple treats are served along with coffee, lemonade and tea. This is a wonderful time to catch up with long time friends and meet new folks, as well.
Coffee Hour cannot be a success without many helpers. Not only do we need volunteers to set up and clean up, we need people to bring treats to share. That’s right- coffee hour is potluck style! If you have something to share, simply put it in the hall before church. If you are able to help set up and clean up, sign up on the bulletin board in the hall. Never hosted before? We have people who can show you how things are done.
Help with Worship
Many people share their gifts each Sunday morning to make our worship flow smoothly. If you would like to help out as an usher, reader, to set up communion, or even greet people who attend, please contact the church office or Pastor Karn. You may also sign up on the sheets posted in the Narthex/lobby of the sanctuary.
Serve Pancakes on Nov 17
OSLC regularly helps to prepare and serve a pancake breakfast at Grace Lutheran in downtown Phoenix, one of our sister congregations. If you would like to help, please sign up with the church office then be at Grace at 6:30 am to begin cooking.
Grace is now officially certified by Maricopa County to serve food to the public! This means they are wanting as many helpers as possible to get a Food Employee Certificate (formerly a Food Handlers Card). The card can be obtained for only $8.00 and it is good for 3 years (for an extra $2.00 you can choose an option to be able to print out your card anytime during the 3 year period.) To take a simple test and receive your Food Employee Certificate go to http://www.azfoodhandlers.com/Register3.aspx.
